Day 4 of Treefort 2018


Last night was off the charts! And the fun never stops during Treefort. Day four is set to be a full day of festivities for everyone to delight in.


George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic was funky fresh and Antibalas sure knows how to get a crowd movin’! We got a full day of fortin’ to do so get your gear on and enjoy.

Before we dive into today’s festivities, let’s relive yesterday thanks to our amazing Treefort film crew:



Main Stage opens with some folk artists at 1:00pm: locals Hillfolk Noir and Portland’s Shook Twins. Bask in the beautiful sounds of The Seshen and then rock out to Low Cut Connie. Later in the evening, we’re lucky to have Antibalas playing a second set before Partner takes the stage. Last but not least, get prepared for the party of your life with Andrew W.K.!

Don’t miss a special performance from feminist punk collective Pussy Riot, as well as an unforgettable set from Zola Jesus tonight at El Korah Shrine.

The psychedelic tunes at Neurolux* tonight are bound to put you in a trance, from New York rock band The Muckers to local space rockers Junior Rocket Scientist. Washington quartet WEEED will play a set, then Portland band BlackWater HolyLight will join them for sonic collaboration called Double Shroomin’ before playing their own set. The night only gets heavier with avant-trio Motherhood and local sweet tarts Thick Business. Connan Mockasin‘s first set of Treefort late night at Neurolux* is gonna be one to remember!

Linen Building will have music from The B-52s Cindy Wilson, Seattle punk band Wimps and avant-psych rockers Kinski.

Hip hop over to Knitting Factory featuring local project Soul Refuge, conscious rapper Madisun Proof, and Illinois artist Kweku Collins. Catch Oddisee & Good Compny again before North Carolina emcee Rapsody takes the stage!

Get ready for a rockin’ time at The Olympic* with Los Angeles musician Dante Elephante, tropical psychadelia troupe Orquestra Pacifico Tropical and local sexadelic funk cats Lounge on Fire.

For you Americana music lovers, we have an amazing lineup at Basque Center: Nashville artist Olivia Jean, local folk group a.k.a. Belle, Portland septet Federale, local songwriter Jeff Crosby, retro supergroup Super Sparkle and local favorites Steve Fulton Music!

Hackfort 2018The 2018 Hackfort Expo Hall~ will feature a strong mix of both local and visiting vendors displaying virtual reality, augmented reality, board games and more! The expo hall is free and all ages 10:30am-5:00pm in the Jump Room at JUMP.

Learn about the latest technologies all day at JUMP’s Loft Room: the ConsenSys team tells us why bitcoin is a community we all should be a part of at 11:00am, understand how the Tolkien, Dungeons & Dragon and gamer culture has gone from basement-dwellers to leaders of the pack at 12:00pm, and producer/DJ Christopher Willits and former OSSIC engineer Sally Kellaway will be holding an on-stage dialogue about the future of sound (Willits from the macro-perspective, Kellaway from the micro-perspective) at 1:00pm! Get DIY at JUMP’s Inspire Studio: jump into narrative puzzle building~ with Epsilon creators Sabrina Jacques and Jade Létourneau at 11:00am, learn about the future of robots from the creator of the first AI sleeping robot~ at 12:00pm, and then join Jack Spallone of Ujo Music to find out how to get ahead of the curve and be ready for the biggest change in the music industry since Napster. JUMP and Idaho STEM Action Center will lead a workshop~ for pi-builders of all levels on how to make it sing at 3:00pm!

In collaboration with Storyfort, listen to Assassin’s Creed programmers Ann Lemay and Ceri Young of UBISOFT talk about technology, video games, and programming at The Owyhee at 12:00pm.

This year at Hackfort, your favorite community radio station, Radio Boise, and Culture Junkies, a new podcast lovingly dedicated to Boise’s culture scene, will broadcast live on stage. This live podcast will feature interviews of key Hackfort’s speakers and guests. Live recording starts at 5:45pm at Radioland.

After a long day of tech talks, listen to music from Hackfort artist Christopher Willits 10:00pm at Adelmann North**.

Treefort Gallery

Treefort Gallery is free and open to the public. The gallery is located at The Owyhee and will be open 12-8pm. Treefort Gallery and Hackfort are teaming up by using an HTC Vive virtual reality headset for the program Tiltbrush. Come on down to the gallery and try it out yourself!

Performance Art

This year, we have a new Performing Arts venue, the Treefort Underground Performing Arts Center (T.U.P.A.C.), on 8th & Myrtle. We have a variety of performances in the space today, starting with Homegrown Theatre’s Horrific Puppet Affair at 12:00pm and 12:30am. At 1:30pm, Selby Jenkins will perform Conflicts of Interest, an experimental work that is altered depending on the environment that it is performed in. At 5:00pm, Idaho Dance Theatre will perform selections from Marla Hansen’s Embody, to “Songs and Poems for Solo Cello”, composed by Philip Glass and performed live by outstanding Boise musician and BSU Professor, Brian Hodges.

Don’t forget — the seventh Band Dialogue is goin’ down at JUMP’s Celebration Circle at 5:00pm! Band Dialogue is a massive composition, experiment, and conversation that explores the sonics of many bands, stretched out across a space, playing simultaneously, part orchestra, part installation composed and conducted by Seth Olinsky of Cy Dune (who played a sick set yesterday).



There will be comedy acts on Main Stage before the music headliners. LOL with Sophie Hughes before Partner and Solomon Georgio before Andrew W.K..

Laugh ’til your face hurts with headliner Daniel Van Kirk and other Comedyfort jokers Cliff Cash, Alex Falcone, Christopher Sundberg, and Emmanuel Vera 7:30pm at The Cellar at Red Feather*!

The giggles don’t stop there. Hop on over to Liquid Lounge* for two rounds of quality comedy. First set starts at 8:00pm with headliner Gina Yashere plus other greats Todd Masterson, Olivia Cathcart, JT Kelley, Bianca Cristovao, and Beth Norton. Second set starts at 10:15pm with headliner Solomon Georgio and comics Cliff Cash, Yusef Roach, Becky Braunstein, Arish Singh, and Hailee Lenhart-Wees.

Renowned Japanese knife makers Shun give you for pointers and best practices when it comes to proper knife care at 1:00pm, then restauranteurs from around the globe recount stories of their favorite dishes and explain their culinary and cultural significance at 2:00pm (co-presented by Storyfort). Listen to local restaurant owners and brewery owners discuss how to bring more adventurous cuisine to Boise at 4:00pm, followed by a special cooking demo with Chef Hugh Acheson at 5:00pm! It’s time for your favorite tiny tots to party at Kidfort!

Kidfort at Treefort Music FestBrings your kids out for another round of STEMbus~ located at The Nest 11:00am-6:00pm. In collaboration with Hackfort, the STEMbus features hands-on experiences for kids of all ages. Swing by! Happy Family presents activities for children at Camp Happy at The Nest 12:00-5:00pm. Stick around for more activities, including dances performances from a variety of cultures, music shows from Boise Rock School bands, a performance from Seattle “kindie rock” band The Not-Its!, and a Hootenanny! jam session hosted by Boise Music Lessons.

Fortcraft is back 12:00-4:00pm at The Nest! Fortcraft is an open interactive building experience for kids and parents and anyone in between. Like a real world Minecraft you can use cardboard, tape, markers and chalk to build the fort of your dreams, add on to other forts, decorate existing structures or make something else entirely.

What happens when we overcome fear? Performed with a variety of puppets by Tears of Joy Theatre, stories are tied together in ways that will elicit both wonder and giggles in There’s a Nightmare in My Closet. Check it out 11:00am at El Korah Shrine.



Skatefort is a celebration of skateboarding, music and community. Skateboarding and music have always gone hand in hand and our goal is to bring people together at a world class skatepark to celebrate our creativity. Everyone is invited to come skate the park together while listening to some amazing music. In addition to bands playing 1-5pm at Rhodes Skate Park, Boise Skateboard Association are bringing in some badass pro skate teams.

Skatefort is run by Boise Skateboard Association and Boise’s Parks & Recreation. Their goal is to improve the lives of Boiseans by advocating for youth and at-risk youth to enjoy the healthy activity of skateboarding in safe and accessible environments.

Morning Altars has inspired tens of thousands of people of all ages from all over the world to forage, build and be awed with Earth Art. Altars will be set up at JUMP’s Pioneer Room all day. Explore how opposite forces complete each other to create balance and harmony using partner work at 10:00am, then East Forest will create a live soundscape as Tony G beautifully weaves a well sequenced class at 11:15am. Dance it out at 1:00pm, drop into your soul through vinyasa at 2:00pm, and experience the art and joy of chanting consciousness-transforming mantras at 3:30pm.

Yogafort will be digging a bit deeper this year in a multi-faith-inspired music tent, Spirit Dome, outside of JUMP. It’s open today 10:00am-6:00pm!
