About

Marielena Vega (pronouns she/her/ella) is a legal assistant at Immigrant Justice Idaho specializing in family-based immigration including special immigrant juvenile status cases. Other areas of expertise include cases before the Executive Office of Immigration Review and the Board of Immigration Appeals. Marielena was born and raised in Idaho. She is the proud daughter of immigrants from Michoacán, Mexico and a first-generation college graduate from the University of Idaho. Following her graduation from the U of I, Marielena began her work in immigration through a summer internship with Andrade Legal. After the completion of her internship, she was offered a position as a legal assistant. She continued her work through Andrade Legal’s transition from private practice to a non-profit now known as Immigrant Justice Idaho. Aside from her work at IJI, Marielena serves as the current chair for Visión 2C Resource Council (member chapter under the Idaho Organization of Resource Councils), as a member of the Treasure Valley Community Gardens Cooperative, and as an expert homework helper to her youngest sibling Susy. Marielena’s experiences as a daughter of immigrants, as the oldest sibling, as an ESL student, and as a first-generation college graduate have strengthened her commitment towards continued advocacy work.
